Lab construction progress

Thanks to the hard work of all the amazing people in our department, university offices and contractor company, construction of our lab space moves ahead quickly. Acoustic chamber construction for STM operation is ongoing and our clean facility area has already been partitioned. We anticipate conclusion of construction work until end of April. To entertain ourselves in the meanwhile, we did a scavenger hunt across campus to find the location of the grounding pit. Tracing the green grounding strap across catwalks, ducts and parking lots, we finally found it well hidden behind the laboratory building.

An independent grounding point, which is not shared with other power supplies, computers or room lighting, is paramount to achieve lowest noise levels in tunnelling spectroscopy measurements. We cannot wait to see ours in action! Stay tuned for more updates, as we approach completion of our lab.
